Development Programs

Sarah Cannon partners with HCA’s Leadership and Organizational Development resources and the Leadership Institute to offer continuing education and career development opportunities.  We provide several programs and assess ongoing needs. A few of our offerings include:

Training and Education Classes:

Our Training and Education Department holds monthly classes to encourage continued education for colleagues. A sampling includes: Fundamentals of Clinical Research, Good Documentation Practices, Interpreting True Colors profiles and many more.

Clinical Research Associate (CRA) Academy:

The Sarah Cannon CRA Academy was founded in 2013.  It continues to grow and deliver a pipeline of qualified CRAs.

CRAs monitor clinical research projects to ensure the quality and integrity of data, compliance with standard operating procedures and adherence to regulatory requirements. CRAs also help to ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget.

The Academy is available for colleagues with at least one year of Sarah Cannon experience.  After completing a formal application process, CRA Academy students complete prerequisite courses and shadow an experienced CRA. Academy courses are taught two afternoons per week for seven months. After the successful completion of classes and exams, Academy students complete six weeks of practical monitoring with an experienced CRA in the field. Following Academy graduation, the colleague transitions into an entry level CRA role.

Biostatistician Fellowship Program:

Our Biostatistician Fellowship is a six to twelve month program for individuals completing a Master’s degree or PhD with a biostatistics concentration.  Fellows complete a training curriculum in statistics and programming and work 20 – 40 hours per week assisting with non-regulatory Investigator Initiated Trials (IIT).

Job Shadowing Program:

Job shadowing provides colleagues with the opportunity to explore future career paths and gain appreciation for positions at Sarah Cannon that have different challenges, rewards and work environments. The goal of this program is to provide a view into career opportunities within Sarah Cannon and allow colleagues to expand their networking contacts to improve collaborative efforts and promote career development.

Internship Program:

Our Internship Program is targeted to individuals in their final year of undergraduate or graduate study.  It provides interns the opportunity to make substantial contributions and explore all that Sarah Cannon has to offer as they approach graduation.

Internships are paid placements that last between three to twelve months.  They can be structured in a variety of ways including full-time, part-time, co-op, summer/spring/fall or for a full year.  Internships are available year-round and are included in our job opportunity postings.

Summer Work Experience Program:

This unique benefit to colleagues provides the opportunity for colleagues’ children and dependents to participate in a career forming and exploration experience.

The Summer Work Experience is a six to eight-week paid placement that offers college students the opportunity to develop skills and obtain work experience in a corporate environment.

The program is open to students who are related to or recommended by a Sarah Cannon colleague.  The student must be enrolled in an undergraduate or associate program for the following fall term.

Students are assigned to work in various departments throughout the company and complete specific department projects, contribute to daily departmental activities and participate in community service and team-building activities.
