NASHVILLE, TENN., July 27, 2016 – Today, Sarah Cannon, the global cancer institute of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), and its affiliated health systems, together with iconic vocalist, Martina McBride and Big Machine Label Group (BMLG), announced that tickets will go on sale for the Band Against Cancer: The Sarah Cannon Tour concert series on August 5, 2016 at 10 a.m. Local Time at bandagainstcancer.com.
As a leading provider of community-based cancer research and care, Sarah Cannon created Band Against Cancer to connect people affected by cancer with resources and support close to home. The movement is activated through The Sarah Cannon Tour with a special concert series, featuring Martina McBride, the leading voice for the campaign, along with additional Country music artists. Sarah Cannon cancer care is offered through preeminent health systems across the United States and United Kingdom, some of which will sponsor concerts in the following cities:
- Dallas, Texas on September 16th at the Verizon Theater at Grand Prairie presented by Medical City Dallas Hospital
- Austin, Texas on September 17th at Bass Concert Hall presented by David’s HealthCare
- San Antonio, Texas on September 21st at The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts presented by Methodist Healthcare
- Denver, Colo. on October 8th at the 1STBANK Center presented by HealthONE
- Nashville, Tenn. on October 26th as part of a special performance of the Grand Ole Opry, with TriStar Health
Martina McBride will be joined by Thompson Square, Cassadee Pope and Hudson Moore at the Texas and Colorado concerts. Martina McBride will be joined by some of her Country music friends for the 2016 finale in Nashville, a special Grand Ole Opry performance in concert with Sarah Cannon and TriStar Health.
In addition to the concert events, Martina premiered “Just Around the Corner” from her newly released RECKLESS album (Nash Icon Records) on the CMT Awards in June. Inspired by the movement, the song serves as the official Band Against Cancer anthem and is a message of hope and strength for those facing cancer. The official music video can be viewed at bandagainstcancer.com.
“The cancer journey cannot be fought alone. It takes physicians, nurses, family, friends and communities banding together to support everyone impacted by cancer,” said Dee Anna Smith, Sarah Cannon Chief Executive Officer. “Band Against Cancer: The Sarah Cannon Tour helps our collective communities connect those facing cancer with the resources and support they need close to home. When we band together in the fight against cancer, cancer doesn’t stand a chance.”
This year, Band Against Cancer has a special focus on people facing blood cancer, an underserved patient population requiring convenient access to cutting-edge treatment options. Blood cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. The concerts will feature opportunities for cancer patients to share their stories and connect with others fighting the disease, as well as onsite activations to join the movement and support those fighting blood cancer.
The tour supports Sarah Cannon’s community partners including The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Communities can further support LLS by joining Sarah Cannon’s local LLS Light The Night Walk teams, or other walks around the country, for the annual Light The Night campaign, which includes 175 walks across the U.S. this fall. Learn more about LLS and the Light The Night walks at bandagainstcancer.com.
"I am thrilled to be performing for my fans as well as helping everyone throughout the Sarah Cannon Cancer Network with their Band Against Cancer initiative," said Martina McBride. "The Sarah Cannon Tour is supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), which is also so important to me because of the impact LLS makes for countless families in our communities across the country.”
For patients diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases, a bone marrow or cord blood transplant may be their best or only hope for a cure. However, 70 percent of patients who need a transplant do not have a fully matched donor in their family. Patients depend on Be The Match® and its supporters to find a match to save their life. Band Against Cancer’s sponsors are proud to partner with Be The Match® to help find more committed and available members of the community who will sign up to save a life.
