John D. Hainsworth, MD

Dr. Hainsworth founded Sarah Cannon Research Institute in 1993 along with F. Anthony Greco, MD, to create the first community-based clinical trial program outside of an academic setting. He currently coordinates the Sarah Cannon Research Institute clinical trials program in genitourinary cancer, and is also broadly involved with protocol development, data analysis and manuscript preparation in the Phase II/III clinical trials programs.
He received a bachelor's degree from Stanford University in 1971, followed by a medical degree from Vanderbilt University in 1976. He completed an internal medicine residency and a medical oncology fellowship at Vanderbilt University, and was a member of the Vanderbilt Faculty from 1981–1993. He is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. Additionally, Hainsworth is an associate with Tennessee Oncology, PLLC.
